As a child he was very interested in rap and this spurned him on to begin writing lyrics, he would then perform the written raps at house parties his friends attended.Hoodie Allen originally worked in the ADwords department in google. He would work a full day at Google and then once he returned home his focus would be on his music this would include: writing songs, keeping up communication with his fan base, scheduling concerts and then preparing for work the next day. This only stopped once the option to become a musician full time presented itself.Hoodie Allen was originally a duo, consisting of Steve and his friend Samuel, however Samuel stopped producing for Steve in 2010 and Hoodie Allen is now just a solo artist rather than a duo. After sampling the famous song 'I Am Not A Robot' by Marina and the Diamonds, retitling it 'You Are Not a Robot' the release was well received and reached no.1 on the Music aggregator website Hype.Associated acts of Hoodie include: Mike Posner, The Cataracs, G-Eazy, Chiddy Bang, Chance The Rapper and many more. As he has either collaborated with said individuals, or been a part of their tours.Hoodie Allen has been well received and after releasing his third mixtape 'Leap Year' which managed to reach 250,000 listens on soundcloud, that is a quarter of a million listens in it's first week of release he headlined a 15 stop tour in the US which included places all over America such as: New York City, San Francisco and Montreal. In October 2014 Hoodie Allen released his Studio album 'People Keep Talking' which has currently reached no.2 on the US R&B/Hip Hop chart and also no.2 on the US rap chart.
Since the beginning of the rap genre there has been several branches from its original form. There has been hardcore rap that is in your face and intense, and there has been the fun quirky kind of rap that artists such as the Beastie Boys helped create. As you might have guessed from someone whose name is based on a wordplay of Woody Allen’s name, Hoodie Allen clearly falls into the fun style of hip-hop.Hoodie Allen has taken a very do-it-yourself kind of approach to his music having recorded most of his music himself, as well as having funded and produced some of his music videos.
Hoodie Allen shows are always like a fun party to attend. Everyone in the crowd is loudly singing the songs and swaying their hands in the air. Hoodie Allen is often accompanied by a guitar player and a DJ when on stage to help fill out the sound. During the performance Hoodie Allen is running around the stage, rapping off his lyrics, and inciting the audience to participate in the fun.Hoodie Allen’s music speaks to the modern generation and his performances are well received at college campuses. Although his music is classified under the rap genre, he adds elements of pop music to his songs that make them catchy. He also uses unique samples in his songs by bands such as Death Cab For Cutie and Two Door Cinema Club. Hoodie Allen’s stage presence is lively and is far from non-confrontational.
Most rappers want to convey a tough persona by acting macho like, but Hoodie Allen dresses in style, sporting slicked back hair, a leather jacket, and skinny jeans.Hoodie Allen’s interpretation of rap music is unique and fun, and seeing him live is an absolute blast that guarantees all his fans to have an exhilarating time. I've been to some artists concerts who are much much more popular than Hoodie and these were great shows like Twenty One Pilots who did so much with the croud and on the stage apart from performing their songs. But Hoodie took that to another level. He was an stage with his band and they were so in sync, in parts of performing and generating a wonderful and sympathetic atmosphere.

He played songs from five records, six year old songs which aren't even on Spotify and had the croud hyped for ever single one. He did the classical cake-throw in the croud while performing Cakeboy, poured water in the first few rows and while playing the last song, a huge jump pit formed in the middle of the croud (there were around 1000 people) and Hoodie went down the stage to sing No Interruption with all of us. He stood right next to me, looked me in the eye, hugged a friend of mine and went back up. Although he said that this was one of his wildest performances multiple times I can imagine him being this hyped for every show. Afterwards he, the band and Preacts came to some waiting fans and took pictures, i luckily met him before the Show because he just stood at his merch stand and gave out autogramms. It was a wonderful evening and if you like his music even a little bit you have to see this man live, if you don't know him, do it anyway, you will love him afterwards. Huge shoutout to Hoodie Allen.
The name is absolutely horrendous, no question about that, but it’d be a shame to judge New York rapper Steven Markovitz purely on that, because he’s had an interesting career since breaking through in 2009. He hardly had the most conventional of hip hop starts - he kicked off his career after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania and whilst still working for Google in their AdWords department. Once he began to tour, the day job fell by the wayside, and he’s gone from strength to strength since; his debut EP, All American, made the top 10 in the U.S. And the top 20 in Canada. He’s still in the process of readying his first album proper - it should be out later this year - and he then plans to tour the world; his shows in American have continued to steadily increase in size, with his most recent dates seeing him debut new material whilst flanked by a turntablist and a guitarist, as well as run through cuts like ‘No Interruption’ and ‘Top of the World’ that, amongst Allen’s cult fanbase, are already stone-cold classics.
A debut UK run late last year saw him bring a full live band and enjoy a messianic reception from those gathered; I’m not sure I can forgive him taking Woody’s name in vain, but he’s certainly going to be one to watch in the coming years.
